Never Work is pleased to announce PINETAR STAR CHART, an exhibition of new work by EJ Hauser. Hauser creates multi-layered paintings on wood panel that encompass contrasting but inseparable parts, bringing together ideas and words taken from the artist’s notebooks, drawings and copious lists.
The surfaces of Hauser’s paintings are seemingly at odds; images suspended in chaotic colorful marks are juxtaposed with panels covered with words meticulously rendered on smooth enamel. Other works unite marks of chaos and control on a single panel.
Hauser’s language of rich imagery incorporates boulders, heads, semi-fierce animals and other forces that float and drift within bold patches of color. Simultaneously, in the text-based paintings the endlessly linked white lettering is informed by admired writings or multitudes of Hauser’s own words.
In unison these paintings give resonance to Hauser’s interest in seafaring tales, free-association, memories and the discovery that is making things by hand.
