For this exhibition, Shetty will present a series of mechanical sculptural installations. Each work: a fragile pot spinning on a sleek motor, a moth-making machine or a pair of automated walking shoes, transform the ordinary objects of everyday life into simple, perfunctory mechanisms.

This disparity of materials permeates nearly all of Sudarshan Shetty’s work. Organic fabrics, clays and liquids are juxt aposed with sterile metal parts, gears, and motors, captivating and enchanting the viewer with their contrasting simplicity and ease of motion. Each installation brings the viewer closer to the hollowed experience of the body, as it succumbs to our modernized space of existence.

"I am interested in the idea of absence, a human absence, of being elsewhere. I think most of us are condemned to be elsewhere: I embrace this predicament and rejoice in it," says the artist. "I try to define this space with familiar objects, to create a dialogue between them… The juxtaposition of seemingly incongruous objects - fruits and rusted blades - results in a coming together of a new meaning; even a kind of poetry, which at times I do not grasp."

Sudarshan Shetty’s works have been exhibited extensively throughout the world. Recent international exhibitions include: the Kwangju Biennale, South Korea, Tate Modern, London, The Devi Art Foundation India and the FC MoCA Manchester, UK.
