Paul Housley is an artist who has long shown little regard for pictorial hierarchy or the boundaries of prescribed genres. This is one of the qualities that render his work so appealing. Yet, assessing Housley’s latest body of paintings compels us to define his oeuvre in terms of genre. Paul Housley (b. 1964, Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, U.K.) lives and works in London, U.K. He received a MA from the Royal College of Art, London and a BA from Sheffield City Polytechnic. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Wilkinson Gallery, London; Durham Light Infantry Museum; and Reg Vardy Gallery, Suderland; as well as group exhibitions at The Approach, London; Hotel Gallery, London; and Hales Gallery, London; among others. His work has been discussed in The Guardian and Art Review magazine, among others. His New York solo debut will be at SUNDAY in February.
