As part of the Lower East Side Printshop’s ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Tomie Arai.
A long-time Printshop participant, Arai constructs visual narratives which explore the tangled relationship between history, memory and fantasy in her recent etchings and printed matter. Arai’s approach to printmaking is unconventional, demonstrating an interest in the application of the medium as a tool to produce large-scale public works of art, murals, banners and silkscreened installations. The exhibition features etchings, monoprints, and silkscreens, some of which were created during her participation in the Keyholder Residency Program at the Printshop.
Tomie Arai lives and works in New York and is currently Artist in Residence at the Museum of Chinese in America, NY.
