AG Gallery is pleased to present “2 senses”, a group exhibition comprised of artworks that are derived from music. The title of the exhibition, ‘2 senses”, stands for “vision” and “hearing”. By exhibiting music-related artworks, and also playing music from which the artworks are derived, viewers will be visually and aurally stimulated. In this exhibition, the works also show how music and art can be seamlessly merged.
One of the art forms that will be shown in this exhibition is album cover art, which is a fairly new type of visual creation that emerged in the 1940s. It could be one of the most influential art forms that are showcased, exposed and viewed by thousands of people everyday and everywhere. Meanwhile, critics consider album cover art as a pop culture icon since music these days has been considered as a commercially produced material. However, the participating artists of this exhibition beautifully portray how they interpret and visually reveal what is contained in the music.
In spite of its entertainment aspect, music itself is a pure, thought-provoking creation. Music has inspired many progressive artists such as Kandinsky and Frantisek Kupka. Kandinsky considered music as “the ultimate teacher,” and his creativity was stimulated by the sounds around him. As for a proof, it is also essential to show musically inspired artworks in “2 senses” exhibition to pursue the incorporative relationship between auditory art and visual art. Music is the art form that can be sensed by hearing, and it has a huge impact on visual faculties. When the music flows, artists illuminate the spirit of music, establishing a strong relation between music and visual imagery.
The List of participating artists:
Jessica Cannon: graduated from Parsons The New School for Design with MFA in Fine Arts. She has been in many group exhibitions at Cinders Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), NYC Bronfman Center Art Gallery (NYC, NY), Heidi Cho Gallery (NYC, NY), Flux Factory (Long Island City, NY), De Sato (Los Angels), Christopher Henry gallery (NYC, NY), and other galleries. She will exhibit her album cover art that she has done for the scissors’ new album at the “2 senses” exhibition.
