The collaboration between Lindquist and Griffin has been manifesting for a year. They began work on Life Partner with weekly sessions working on mixed media collage, drawings on paper, and paintings on canvas.

The marriage of Lindquist’s distinct expressive lines and painterly strokes matched with Griffin’s tight, yet gracefully thoughtful drawing and painting style make for a successful visual recording of an ongoing conversation between the two.

A piece begins with a stroke of color, a found photograph, a transfer of image and is developed through the constant exchange from Lindquist and Griffin. They have, in a sense, created their own version of the exquisite corpse, a method adapted and imposed by artists and musicians alike and continuously redefining the notion of the collaboration.

This partnership has allowed each of the artists to work beyond the self- imposed boundaries and restrictions of their solo work, which becomes apparent in the freedom of the context as well as the inhibition of delivery in formal elements. This method implemented by Lindquist and Griffin has provided them with pieces not so concerned with the preciousness of the work but establishing work without fear and reservation with a sense of frankness that is refreshing and powerful.

The sense of crassness, poignant humor, and ironic self-awareness is apparent through their work and has been made triumphant through the meticulous editing process Lindquist and Griffin practice upon finishing a series of collaborative efforts for that particular session. The two produce hundreds of drawings in each collaborative meeting and editing and curating the work is just as important, if not more important to the cohesiveness of the work. The result of the methodology imposed by the duo has resulted in successful groupings of thoughtful resonance.
