Benjamin Entner – Graphite on Paper: Still Life with a side of Cheese (Gallery 1) Omar Chacón – Sancochos a la Cimabue (Gallery 2) curated by José Ruiz

Bronx, NY…. Two solo exhibitions debut at the Bronx River Art Center on Friday, May 2, 2008. Known for their whimsical contributions to sculpture and painting, New York artists Benjamin Entner and Omar Chacón extend the conventional notions of these historical mediums by embracing the absurd saturation and plasticity evident in contemporary culture. Each artist approaches their work with a grain of salt embedded in art historical notions. Entner pushes past the idea of representational still life drawing with a large-scale, inflatable sculpture installation, covered in graphite, which depicts a still life while Chacón wrestles with the influence of the famed 12th century, Italian painter, Giovanni Cimabueand the cultural fusion of the Americas.

The gallery and the opening reception are free and open to the public. For more information about the exhibit, please visit: www.bronxriverart.org
