The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce Dulacrow’s Masterwork: A Mockumentary Film from 1976, a solo exhibition of a film and accompanying film stills by Robert Colescott.

In 1976 Robert Colescott made his own version of the famous painting “Liberty Leading the People” originally painted by the master French painter Eugene Delacroix. Colescott’s own masterwork (of the same name) was created by his alter ego “Eugene Dulacrow.” In accordance with the respect due any great work of art, Colescott composed an accompanying slide show lesson about the history of his great work.

The film is comprised of a string of slides that Colescott staged and photographed following the completion of the painting. A dramatic score opens the slide presentation lecture and “Eugene Dulacrow’s” “Liberty Leading the People” appears as the first slide. In the sprit of slide lectures everywhere Robert Colescott himself narrates the lecture in classic monotone.
