To launch the debut of a dynamic new exhibition series, Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery is pleased to present a focused show that includes three distinctly related artists, John Armleder, Olivier Mosset, and Haim Steinbach.

By employing an aesthetic scheme of trilogies, the exhibition permits three single works of art to create an immediate, reactive dialogue among the artists’ concerns. For the inaugural show, Armleder, Mosset and Steinbach’s reductive manipulation of space and painting will transform the project space. Mosset’s six monochrome panels appear as cool commitments to abstraction against Armleder’s animated work and Steinbach’s precise arrangements. Together, however, the works position us to consider shape and the spatial status and relationships of the art object.

John Armleder lives and works in Geneva, Switzerland. Instrumental in the Fluxus movement, Armleder has shown his work in exhibitions worldwide for the past 30 years, including the Venice Biennale, where he represented Switzerland in 1986. In 2004, a retrospective exhibition of his works on paper was shown at the Kunsthalle Zurich, which later traveled to the ICA in Philadelphia. During the winter of 2006, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Geneva, also hosted a grand-scale retrospective of his work.

Olivier Mosset lives and works in Tucson, Arizona. Having gained prominence in Paris as a member of BMPT in the late 1960s, Mosset has had extensive solo exhibitions at major museums and galleries worldwide. His large two-part retrospective traveled between the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne and the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland in 2004. In the 44th Venice Biennale, Mosset represented Switzerland and his work was featured in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.

Since the late 1970’s Haim Steinbach has created structures to frame and present objects. By the late 1980s, Steinbach was included in various international shows such as New Sculpture, at the Renaissance Society of Chicago and Prospect 86, at the Kunstverein in Frankfurt, in 1986. He has shown internationally at numerous venues including Venice Biennale, Venice, 1997, Haus der Kunst, Munich, 2000, The Berkeley University Art Gallery, 2005, Serpentine Gallery, London and PS1, New York in 2006, as well as The Sculpture Center, Queens, 2007.
