Nicelle Beauchene Gallery is pleased to announce My Happy Demons, a group exhibition with works by Jeff Davis, Christopher Davison, Kirsten Deirup, Brock Enright and Aurel Schmidt.

My Happy Demons addresses and examines the dichotomy between positive enigmatic forces and malignant spirits, which have existed in religion, folklore and mythology since Ancient Greek Civilization. Before the rise of Judaism and Christianity, demonic entities were generally regarded as benevolent and credited with having protective properties. However, when introduced and transferred to Western culture and religion, these beings came to be regarded as fallen angels or malevolent forces.

The artists in this exhibition conjure up their own personal discourse on demons and their alleged power to posses the living by challenging common superstitions, religious rituals, mythologies and popular culture. Potent allegories are invoked which explore and embrace these entities, exposing a less sinister side to contemporary demonology. Through a gritty sense of humor and raw wit, the artists shed a positive light on the stigmatized portrayal of demons, allowing us to engage and submit to our darker sides. Together these works serve as a reminder to the dualities of good and evil, reality and fiction, and life and death.
