Quiet Politics will explore the kind of seemingly ‘quiet’ or ‘understated’ politics that informs the work of a number of artists who have found powerful ways of commenting on social and political issues as part of a multi-layered artistic practice.

The works in the exhibition are informed by their ability to address politics in a way that reveals itself poetically—by calling attention to a myriad of distinct issues (the history of art, identity politics, issues of violence, and social inequality, among others) through seemingly simple aesthetic or conceptual gestures. Such works are powerful in their ability to help expand our political consciousness through a kind of economy of means—exemplifying perhaps what might be considered a ‘poetic,’ or ‘quiet’ kind of politics.
