The VERY UNHELPFUL Group Show brings together four emerging artists who, at first glance, aim to keep us at arm’s length. They herald an overridingly diagrammatic aesthetic—as if walking into an over-sized, over-confident textbook. Drawing from various sources, each artist reveals their own habit of reducing the world. However, these calculated tactics dissolve to expose a paranoia of relations and a desperate attachment to beauty. Both delicate and territorial—VERY UNHELPFUL drafts systems that buck and pull against the very structures they demonstrate.
