The Hogar Collection is very pleased to announce the opening of the fall season with Jihoon Park, One Day, One Deal. In his second solo exhibition at the gallery he will present his most recent paper and media based works that explore sociological and psychological relationships at the root of our most primal human condition/state. Employing techniques derived from stop animation movies, he synthesizes painting, sculpture and media practices to create provocative and stunningly beautiful video works. Using amorphic imagery of people fighting, making love, dancing, playing sports etc, Park manipulates layers upon layers of newspaper cutouts in one series, and in another, multi layered watercolors. These multi-layered paper works make up the scenes for the final stage of the work as video. In a psychedelic and kaleidoscopic transformation the images mutate, develop and grow into whirlwinds of pattern and color becoming more entangled and engaged as the complexity of their webs develop. On exhibit will be videos alongside their counterpart mixed media paper works and sculptures.
Jihoon Park was born in 1967 and lives and works in Seoul Korea. He received an MA from the New School an MFA from Rutgers University and another MFA from Seoul National University. His work has been exhibited internationally at The Kwangju Bienniale in Seoul, Bonham’s in London, The Shanghai Duolon Museum of Modern Art in China, The Landes Museum in Lintz Austria, Hous der Kultren der Welt in Berlin, KOFIC (the Korean Film Council) in Seoul, the Tokyo Wonder Site in Japan and upcoming at the Palacio Galveias in Lisbon and the Farmleigh Gallery in Dublin among other venues.
