Curated by Baseera Khan and Johanna Taylor

Madeline L’Engle explained her writing philosophy: “If I have something that is too difficult for adults to swallow, then I will write it in a book for children.” In her much contested and beloved 1962 young adult novel A Wrinkle in Time, L’Engle presented unconventional worlds and scientific concepts. Artists continue to seek out alternate methods to digest current society, politics, and other difficult topics within their work. This exhibition assembles work by twelve Brooklyn-affiliated artists who respond to the barrage of monumental dates and events in modern American history. With work in widely varying media, these artists recontextualize current events through the lens of personal experience and perception to offer alternate visions of geography, landscape, media, along with consumerism and other cultural conventions. Artists

Jaishri Abichandani, Jonathan Allen, Daniel Bejar, Ernest Concepcion, Josey Hale, Katarina Jerinic, Elaine Kaufmann, Fawad Khan, Jeesoo Lee, Duke Riley, Sara Ching-Yu Sun, and Jason Varone.
