Draw Me a River, a group drawing show curated by Jonathan Greene, will be on view from Thursday October 9, 2008 through Sunday November 9, 2008. An opening reception on Wednesday October 8 will preview the exhibition. The artists participating in the exhibition are as follows: Megan Greene (shown in cooperation with Kinz, Tillou + Feigen), Brian Haverlock, Paul Lorenz, Marci MacGuffie, Christopher Skura and Su-en Wong (shown in cooperation with Danese).
Seen together as a torrent of marks, the works in Draw Me a River share a common focus of obsession, repetition, and the tendency to overflow two-dimensional boundaries. Whether read in the literal sense of expressing themselves through an outpouring of activity on the page (I cried a river over you) – or as implied consolation in response to a negative and unsympathetic remark (oh, cry me a river) – these artists occupy their time by meticulously filling space. Increasing momentum generates the need for self-control, resulting in lines, colors, patterns and figures that interlock in intricate patterns, systems and imaginative narratives. The process becomes its own distraction and reward in a world that otherwise lacks attention and focus.
