We hope that you will join us for the opening reception of an exhibition of works by Stan VanDerBeek at Guild & Greyshkul on Saturday, September 13th from 6 – 8pm.

Stan VanDerBeek (1927-1984) often referred to himself as a moving image artist. From his early experimentations in sequential painting to his later projects with computers, he was constantly searching for a universal means of visual communication. The exhibition at Guild & Greyshkul aims to present an overview of VanDerBeek’s multi-faceted practice. The exhibition will include a selection of his early works, collages from his films, a re-staging of “Found Forms,” (1969) a multi-image installation and a re-presentation of “Panels for the Walls of the World” Phase II, a fax mural VanDerBeek first transmitted in 1970 from MIT to several locations throughout America, including the Walker Art Center and the Boston ICA. Additionally, a continuous film program of works from 1958-1972 and a two-channel video “Violence Sonata,” originally broadcast on WGBH on December 31, 1969 will be on view.
