Launching its ambitious program of upcoming Fall 2008 exhibitions, Capricious Space is proud to present Environs, quietly exquisite drawings, photos and sculpture by artist Amelia Bauer.

Amelia Bauer’s work is an exploration of present-day landscapes. Obsessively crafted and intricately detailed, Bauer’s drawings and sculptures organize forms from contemporary environments into repeating geometric patterns in the tradition of the decorative arts. Scale is disregarded and forms are placed together more intuitively than practically. These are fictional worlds, but not all together impossible. The elements are familiar but the arrangement is not. The pieces in Environs search for a space somewhere between utopia and dystopia, haunting and ethereal, setting the viewer between two worlds.
