Margaret Murphy and The Garage are proud to present Park Place a solo project by Lisa Dahl. Utilizing the garage door and the garage’s proximity to a city park Dahl plays with the decorative qualities of suburban development patterns when seen from above, and the ubiquity of the private lawn as usurper of the traditional communal park. Casting undulating culs-de-sac from monopoly houses, Dahl inserts the tiles of plastic houses along with rows of faux sod on the outside door panels of The Garage, resulting in a never ending neighborhood surrounded by lush fields of deceptively perfect green. The installation is in sharp contrast to its environment, an urban Jersey City neighborhood, allowing for a dialogue about community and private space to emerge.
LISA DAHL is a visual artist who works in painting, photography, and video. Dahl currently lives and works in New York City. Her work has recently been exhibited in museums, galleries, art fairs and video festivals both nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include SPRAWL at the Jersey City Museum, No Place Like Home at The Hunterdon Art Museum, and DWELL at Cheryl McGinnis Gallery in New York.
