ART 101 presents a show of new work by two Manhattan painters. Zoe Nelson and Joseph Greenberg both capitalize on the ability of oil paint to capture energy and their paintings resonate, as such.
Zoe Nelson, 25 and working in Harlem, utilizes a painter-soldier approach to a sort of contemporary fauvism, moving undaunted into emotions, the nuances of which are made artciculate by straight-up brushwork.
Joseph Greenberg, 86 and working in Union Square, has found an energy field between the abstract and the figural with which he contructs shapes and compositions that lie thick on the canvas, heavy colors resting and wresting with each other, ultimately unified.
