NY Studio Gallery is pleased to present The Massive Sea: Sculptural Compositions by Al Wadzinski. Wadzinski creates zoomorphic assemblages using found objects of every material – mundane, valuable, cast-offs, delicate or impermeable, reclaimed from salvage yards, garage sales and alleys.

In reaction to “our modern addiction to new technology and trends which has created a massive sea of plastics,” Wadzinski is fabricating new pieces mainly from an array of commonplace objects, such as now-unfashionable disposable lawn chairs to Happy Meal® fetishes still in their plastic wrappings. While other pieces incorporate objects from the natural world – wood, antlers, feathers, bone – which are “struggling to compete for their place in the clutter and chaos of the work.” These two worlds, the natural and industrial, “meet on some sort of common ground, or find a strange kind of harmony.”

Wadzinski, a Native – American, is fascinated by the relationship between the diverse objects, finding relationships both symbolic and absurd. He states, “I don’t necessarily take a green approach to the work but I feel strongly about the conspicuous consumption taking place on our planet.”
