We are proud to present Sara Blokland’s second solo show at the gallery: Reproduction of family (part two).* In this exhibition she explores the representation of the concept of family, by analyzing the confusion and ambiguity between the personal and impersonal. On view is a family, whose images are reproduced on cup and saucer or reprinted on existing photographs of books about plants and food. It is a fictional reconstruction of the context of this group of people.
In Reproduction of family (part two) she researches the role of the ‘exotic’ within family. Sara Blokland is interested in the deconstruction of the exotic object within photography and its presentation, and reconstructing new ones. Creating tension between the index of a photographic image and the instability of its communication.
Blokland reflects on that history in which, the individual is part of a decorative and anthropological view. The personal history is reduced to a ritual, which denies its development through time. Reproduction of family (part two) focuses on visual rituals, family, and the relationship between pose, object and surrounding.
