CURATED BY DAPHNE FITZPATRICK
“Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together. After one taste, you’ll duck soup for the rest of your life.” – Groucho Marx
La Galleria is pleased to present a group exhibition curated by artist Daphne Fitzpatrick entitled Duck Soup. The exhibition title refers to both the Marx Bros. film and the American slang use of the term; if something is as good as done or will be done very easily it is said to be “duck soup”.
With this in mind, Fitzpatrick visited 43 artists’ studios and chose a single non-art object. The assembly of these curiosities creates an intriguing incidental menagerie – a most unusual and innocently intimate group portrait is the result of this quirky collection – each item becoming a talisman for the others.
