In glob hammer in RARE PLUS, Ryan Ford paints visions of realms considered just out of reach of cognitive reasoning. Stemming from a deep metaphysical fascination and fear of the eternal unknown, Ford balances notions of the rational and the irrational. Malleable images from the human psyche materialize and implode/explode in an endless cycle of mutating re-representations situated within dream-like and shapeless landscapes. In a world that rides the line between symbolism and abstraction, lightning bolts lose their gusto and fall like feathers, bullets playfully bounce around as if inside a pinball game, and renegade ropes squirm like worms and burst through bricks while spewing sewage. Ultimately, Ford’s approach is a meditative exploration of equilibrium. His paintings challenge notions of boundaries, blurring presumed contexts so that intangible worlds become manifest and opposing forces collide in suspended harmony.
