For those who wonder how commercial galleries decide who and what to exhibit, NY Studio Gallery has demystified the artist selection process with the Reality Gallery: American Slide-All. This virtual exhibit spoofs reality-based shows so popular in today’s mass media through a contest that encourages widespread participation by all levels of artists, increasing their exposure and offering a chance at a solo exhibition.
How does the Reality Gallery work? In the past, all entrants were projected in the gallery and voted on by the public and a panel of judges comprised of established arts professionals such as curators and critics. Now in its third year and increasing in popularity, NYSG’s judges panel will narrow the field to twenty to thirty finalists who make the virtual exhibition. The finalists’ images will be projected in the gallery, along with a verbal explanation of their exhibition concept, and voted on by the gallery-going public. A first, second and third place winner will be awarded solo exhibitions at NY Studio Gallery during the following year. NYSG accepts submissions in all media from emerging, mid-career and established artists worldwide.
