ISE Cultural Foundation presents the exhibition “QUOTATION” by the Japanese artist Yumiko Furukawa at the front project space.
Furukawa explains about her work and her exhibition as following:
”My sculpture is an inspiration from my own reading experience, including my first novel “FLICKER”. This book embodies my daily life between my art studio in Tokyo and my new home in New York. I incorporate “Interpretation” from the literature into my art, and also possible situations from “Mistranslation”. My sculpture presents the chain of microcosm displaying the understanding of culture, humanism, ourselves and each other.
For this exhibition, I selected some quotations to propose better life. I used several sources such as: self-help books along with bestsellers and from those sources I have produced the relief that derives from my selected quotations. My unique style may be difficult and complex to understand the display of human mentality and truth by the object. I have created an artistic production and exploration with a unique style containing loose carvings of wood and colorful pigments, which would compare to children’s wooden blocks that will escalate such as stairs. This will be a reflection of the progressing story, by using steps to represent my actions toward the future, with a dollhouse as the ending result. When viewing imagine a new world where you can create your own story such as your destiny.”
