Curated by Meresone

Haven Gallery is pleased to present “The Deadly 4MULA,” a group exhibition of 22 aerosol artists curated by Meresone. For this exhibition, Haven’s Galleries I and II will be divided into 10 sectional themes. Some of these themes include Meresone’s “NY Series,” Zimad’s “Black Book Art,” James Pyle’s installation and Bishop’s figure work in vibrant color and line.

Meresone is the C.E.O. of 5 Pointz, the Institute of Higher Burnin’, the converted warehouse at Jackson Ave. and Crane St. in Long Island City, Queens, famously visible from the elevated 7 train as it rumbles its way east from Manhattan. Not a museum or gallery, 5 Pointz is a living collage of graffiti art covering a building full of artist studios. The art of famous and novice graffiti artists covers the building’s facade, all done with the encouragement of the building’s owner.

Meresone originated TD4 Crew in 1991. With three other members, the crew originated as a street tagging group. After three years, the crew went their own way and MERES1 switched to “piecing.” Unlike tagging, piecing (short for masterpiece), generally involves painting figurative, representational or abstract graffiti in at least three colors. By 1997, a new generation of TD4 membership had assembled, comprised of about half a dozen new members. The crew painted throughout the 5-boroughs of NYC, as well as in other states and countries. TD4 has participated in several international graffiti events. Currently there are over 20 members throughout the East coast. In the future, the crew plans to continue traveling the world, painting and creating gallery shows and museum exhibits.

The uniqueness of TD4 exists in the diversity of their talent and ability to work together as a unit. With artists whose skills range from fine arts to graphic design, to illustration and more, the crew brings a synergy to their art on many levels. TD4 members have been commissioned by such companies and individuals as: Def Jam Poetry, Swatch, Joss Stone, Matisyahu, Deutsche Bank, Nike, Heineken, Greyhound, Glamour Magazine, ABC, and Brown Sugar (the motion picture).
