In his fifth solo show at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Rico Gatson will exhibit Spirit, Myth, Ritual and Liberation, 2008, a large-scale video installation, which is inspired by the murder of Meredith Hunter as documented in the film “Gimme Shelter,” 1970. In this work, Gatson reworks scenes from the film, as well as a scene from Jean-Luc Godard’s “Sympathy for the Devil”. Spirit, Myth, Ritual and Liberation is a symbolic liberation of a spirit in conflict and provides a lens through which tragedy and pain can be viewed as a process that is often only resolved through time.
