Mixed Greens is thrilled to announce Leah Tinari’s solo exhibition. As the title suggests, Tinari invites the viewer to take a peek inside her personal life and witness the sometimes scandalous revelry enjoyed by her friends and family.
For this show, Tinari continues her practice of combining and transforming snapshots to compose celebratory drawings and paintings. Her viewer is privy to the good times in vivid detail and astounding likeness.
In these newest works, Tinari limits her color palette to black- and-white in a series of photo booth paintings, and amps up her risqué content in colorful, candid party pictures. Tinari’s increased interest in pattern and shading is demonstrated through festive clothing, expressive hair, and swaths of exposed skin. Unbridled moments of pure fun during recent vacations, nights out, birthdays and weddings create an atmosphere of warmth and celebration, leaving the viewer longing to be invited to the next party.
Leah Tinari graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1998 and had her first New York City solo show with Mixed Greens in 2003. Other solo venues include District Fine Arts in Washington, DC (2009), NuLu Gallery in Louisville, KY (2008), Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT (2007), and Peter Miller Gallery in Chicago (2006). Group exhibition venues include Supreme Trading in Brooklyn, the Bronx River Art Center, the Bronx Academy of Art and Dance, Dumbo Art Center, Lombard-Freid Gallery in NYC, and Gale Gates in Brooklyn. Leah is looking forward to upcoming exhibitions in both Spain and Italy through Barcelona’s rojo artspace (2009).
