If life is what happens between people, then this exhibition by HuskMitNavn, Danish ex-streetartist-gone-artworld, proves that art is too.

A woman sleeps in a man’s lap while he reads a paper lying across her back. Two strangers wait in vain, side by side, at the airport baggage reclaim. A lonely man passes a beautiful woman on the stairs to the subway. A man pushes a car while the driver yells out the window. Kids play soccer in an urban setting. A mother looks at her child with such love that her heart might break. And a boy with a bloody nose has his ear pulled by someone outside the frame.

The child, the stalker, the mother, the helpful stranger, the friend, the foe – they are all defined by their relation to one-another. In the works of HuskMitNavn, the spaces in between these people grow into something almost tangible in its own right.

The situations and settings in the exhibition It Takes Two are universal and as easily recognizable as the peculiar style that defines the work of HuskMitNavn. The lines are rounded and almost cartoonish, the color scheme is bright and the warmth, sensibility and humor embedded in every single drawing, painting eminates an almost childish curiosity: a curiosity directed at the very fabric that holds us together across borders.

HuskMitNavn (RememberMyName) has made a name for himself internationally with his often controversial, always humorous and sometimes political art. His characteristic figures and comments are used as illustrations for international magazines and newspapers and have been shown at art galleries and museums around the world.

It Takes Two is HuskMitNavn’s first solo exhibition in New York. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photo-collages, prints, sculptures and murals made especially for LaViolaBank Gallery.
