Featuring the Artwork of Brian Willmont, Eric Shaw, and Denise Kupferschmidt
Brian Willmont is building the new American folktale with technicolor paintings that are tarnished with American history, Pre-Renaissance and Persian miniature painting, worship, dreamscapes, blacklight posters and the fantastic. On the verge of decoration, vividly patterned compositions are designed to entrance the viewer (like a siren), disguising and distorting violence. His work has been featured in Solo Exhibitions at Space 1026 (Philadelphia, PA), LaMontagne Gallery (Boston MA) and The Mills Gallery, (Boston MA), Juxtapoz, The Boston Globe, Beautiful/Decay Anthology and The Boston Phoenix, among other print and web publications. In 2005 Willmont started Apenest, an experimental group devoted to book and print publishing.
Eric Shaw lives and works in Brooklyn. Detailed, dark, whimsical and large-scale, his work has been featured in CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art, Bordeaux, France; Synchronicity Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Fresh MOCA silent auction Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; KRETS Gallery Malmo, Sweden, among others.
Denise Kupferschmidt grew up in Pennsylvania and now lives in Brooklyn, NY. She has had exhibitions at Werkstatte Gallery in New York, LaMontagne Gallery in Boston and most recently in the window at 259 Tenth Avenue in New York. Currently she and fellow artist Sadie Laska are taking part in Coco Loco at Stairwell Gallery in Providence, RI.
