THREE NIGHTS OF OPENING RECEPTIONS AT HAVEN ARTS FEBRUARY 27TH AND 28TH , FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS 6-10PM AND MARCH 4TH, WEDNESDAY, 6-9PM WELCOMING THE BRONX CULTURE TROLLEY

Remnants of the graffiti exhibit “ DEADLY4MULA” remain on the wall as additional graffiti has been added by artists young old . Students from Millenium High school for the arts and teacher David Coves’ proteges from junior and high school round out the graffiti presentation. An inline skating platform is up gallery 2, where NYC’s finest skaters are performing inside, in a safe place, a haven, while surrounded by cutting edge contemporary art.

Dan’s work is from the early 1980’s, when he was friendly with Jean Michel Basquiet and part of the lower east side scene. Dan’s 36 mask like drawings with oil stick , crayon and ink are moving, haunting and revealing of a deeper layer of self often obscured by surface beauty. An oil painting and a recent film about his life reveal some of the layers of this as of yet unchampioned artist of our time.

Joshua Cave, a bronx resident, works with a mix of acrylic and oil house paints as well as crayons on unprimed canvas reminiscent of early experimentations in color field painting

Marisol Diaz’s photographs of factory machinery is set among figurative photography and Bing Lee’s humorous explicitly naked drawing to expunge the similarities between human and machine forms.

Isolde Kille’s sculptures of broken bits of mirrors adds a fractured sense of reality reflective of our harried and disjointed society.

Filling out gallery 1 is a wall filled with posters, art works, invitations, sculpture and books from a selection of exhibits over Haven’s past years.

“Last Gasp: The Passing of Polaroid Film”, an exhibit of polaroid cameras and photographs by JC Rice and Barry Kostrinsky continues it’s run in gallery 3.

Additional surprises are always around the corner at Haven.
