Kris Graves Projects is proud to announce the first NYC solo exhibition of Peruvian photographer Sergio A. Fernández. Curated by Kris Graves.

Sergio A. Fernández’s “Global” is the culmination of a ten-year project in which the artist examines corporate work environments and the failure of modernity. While searching for a common ground between cultures, he began photographing institutional spaces, which appear to have no identifiable function or geographic location. The glow of fluorescent lights and the poor acoustics of dry wall are present in institutional buildings across the world, turning them into spatial vacuums that defy traditional notions of purpose and placement. The images in this project explore the institutions, as they exist and without intervention, in order to document and extract beauty from the dismissed stages of public life. The first exhibition of “Global” took place late last year at FIFI Projects – Miami, Florida, from October 11 to November 25, 2008.

Sergio A. Fernández was born in 1973 in Lima, Peru. He studied at Massachusetts College of Art, where in 2000, he received his MFA. Sergio’s photographs belong to the collections of Instituto de Artes Fotograficas (Peru), and Goldman Sachs (NY).

In the project space, +Kris Graves Projects is pleased to present Dana Gentile’s newest series of collages entitled “Agriculture” running simultaneous with Fernández’s photography. Dana’s collages use humor to reconstruct and evaluate issues relating to modern agriculture practices. Dana will also be giving a lecture on how her photography informs her current collage work. Information on the lecture will be posted to the +Kris Graves Projects website.

Dana Gentile is an emerging Brooklyn-based artist. She graduated with a BFA from SUNY Purchase College in 2003. Her work has been exhibited in New York at The Museum at FIT, Slideluck Potshow, and Pocket Utopia. She was interviewed in the Italian Publication PIG (People In The Groove) Magazine in October 2006. In addition, her work is included in a curated limited edition book titled Ruby Mag that was published in Argentina. She was invited to participate in the 2007 project titled Fjord, which brings together emerging and up and coming photographic talent of today.
