Living for the City is a multi-media exhibition featuring new and recent work by established and emerging artists from around the world that captures a particular vision, experience or memory of the artists’ cities of residence or origin.
The artists, many of whom have seldom or never before been seen in New York, explore a range of urban global experiences drawing on painting, photography, video, installation, and sculpture.
Living for the City is the inaugural exhibition of BICA, an international contemporary arts center founded by Isolde Brielmaier and Trevor Schoonmaker, scheduled to open in Brooklyn’s BAM cultural district in the fall of 2007. In the interim, BICA will stage a series of exhibitions and programs at available venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
