Kristin Lucas’ multimedia works continue to address the complexity of our relationship with technology. Tribute is her first solo show in New York since 2001.
The exhibition consists of two projects: “Lower East Side Bike Drum Roll” (2004-2005), a video performance tribute to the residents on the Lower East Side. Lucas attached a snare drum and cymbal to the handlebar of her bicycle and rode through the neighborhood, performing at intersections: a drum roll for the duration of each red light followed by a cymbol crash on green.
“Magic Eyes Cream Headache Sandwich” (2005) is an anniversary event staged by Lucas for her arms. In this experimental set-piece, presented as a three-channel video installation, Lucas dramatizes the internal conflicts associated with haptic-enhanced communication.
