In Wait, Sarah Wood’s sculptures emphasize the materiality of the object. Much like American sculptors of the 60’s and 70’s, Wood creates reduced abstract forms from existing materials. Her work addresses the duality between presence and absence within space, playing with repeated shadows and suspended forms. Her use of black materials lends a weight and density to the object that is often misleading. In “Untitled”, she builds a hanging series of logs made of black felt, lightly suspended over their shadow.

David Kennedy-Cutler uses tree branches collected from the streets of New York City for the work included in Reverberate. Stripped, split, bent, and manipulated to defy their natural shape, each branch is coated in a different application of a compact disc’s data. Kennedy-Cutler heat fuses the pre-owned discs to the branches in a variety of techniques, encasing each branch in a shell of reflected light and color. This work hangs in space, a fusion of recycling and sculptural object, pointing towards the future.

Sarah E. Wood recently held exhibitions at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and at PS 122 in NYC. She holds a BFA from Maryland institute College of art and an MFA from Rutgers University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

David Kennedy-Cutler also lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He held solo exhibitions at Nice & Fit gallery in Berlin and participated in several group shows in NYC, most recently at Tracy Williams Ltd. and D’Amelio Terras Gallery. Kennedy-Cutler holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.
