Envoy gallery is pleased to present, “Swan Dive Jack Knife”, an exhibition of new work by the Brooklyn based artist collective Cornrow Rider. An opening reception for the artist will be held Thursday April 9th at 6pm. Envoy Gallery is a ground floor space located at 131 Chrystie St in the Lower East Side neighborhood of New York City.

Known for their intelligent rendering of the ironies we are constantly faced with, Rider constitutes a creative intervention into the structures of society humans are defined by.A massive crumpled poster sprawling the text Mexicans, a video projection of a Moroccan refugee, and a series of life jacket sculptures make up the exhibition. This commanding body of work stands as an intersection of thought for both cultural exodus and stagnation, illuminating the logical extreme where the nightmare and the paradise coexist.

While the collective was established in 2001, members have exhibited independently in both galleries and museums worldwide including venues such as The Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk VA, The Hermitage Foundation, Norfolk VA, Harper St Cinema, UK, Sloten House projects, NL, USSA Fine Arts, NY, The Union Gallery, NY, The Walter McBean Gallery, CA, Other Cinema, San Francisco CA, and Boulevard es Brezsnyev Gallery, Budapest Hungary.
