LUMENHOUSE is proud to present a group exhibition Euphoric Recall from April 26 – May 17, 2009. The exhibition will include paintings by Ariel Dill and works on paper by Daniel Ingroff and Lillian Kingery. Euphoric Recall is curated by Jessica Duffett. A reception for the artists will be held Saturday May 2nd from 6-9 pm.

Euphoric Recall takes its title from a drawing by Lillian Kingery that is named after the psychological phenomena of positive memory’s prevalence when one thinks about the past. Each of the artists incorporates the history of American abstract painting into their own influences and language with a particularly vibrant aesthetic and disposition. In part, this commonality is indebted to all of the artist’s connection to the West coast.

Lillian Kingery lives and works in Portland, Oregon and will be showing five works on paper from 2008-2009. Her delicate ink drawings are process-based works that intuitively map constellations of perception and memory.

Ariel Dill lives and works in New York, and will be showing eight new paintings. Her paintings bring together diverse influences – from ancient ceramics to native American textiles and European modernist painting. Dill transforms her paintings’ surfaces through numerous iterations in an often reductive process that results in rich layers of abstract imagery.

Daniel Ingroff lives and works in Los Angeles and will be showing four new works on paper. Ingroff’s drawings are fantastic spaces that playfully reference American abstract painting and design. Ingroff contrasts hard edge geometric patterns that nod to Frank Stella and vintage textile design with the gooey drips of gestural painting in his own ecstatic palette.

LUMENHOUSE is an alternative exhibition space in Bushwick, Brooklyn committed to supporting artists through exhibitions, working space, performance space and affordable photography studios.
