a show by Celia Rowlson-Hall and Jen Dunlap, opens at Eye Level BQE Gallery
(New York, NY) Eye Level Gallery is proud to present Celia Rowlson-Hall and Jen Dunlap in “Parallel.” For this show, Celia has written and choreographed a video-study of basic human emotions and experiences residing in the territorial and often childlike sexual ways of the human being. These videos were visually produced by Jen Dunlap, who will be showing her most recent paintings that play upon basic concepts of quantum physics, warped space time, and refracted and stretched particles of light.
On a eventful presentation exclusively planned for the opening night, Jen Dunlap and Celia Rowlson-Hall have created a playground reality that encourages viewers to explore and participate with the different works by establishing a system of portals that allow the viewer to travel through a labyrinth of possibilities changing human experience, skewing it into something out of proportion. Additionally, Celia and Jen will be performing a short piece, with repeated acts throughout the night which follows one particle through a string of parallel universes, in the same manner by which direct confrontation finds its presence at the sight of their identical “other.
About Celia Rowlson-Hall:Celia started her artistic career in the realm of choreography. Trained at the North Carolina School of Arts, she has presented choreographed work at Lincoln Center Clark Theater, Dance New Amsterdam, DTW StudioSeries, Deitch Art Parade, and many other locations in NYC and internationally. Her artistic relationship with film began through choreography and has since manifested into an independent artistic practice. For her show at Eye Level she focused on a series of videos of the self-imposed limitation of executing an entire film at one location, and by expressing a narrative without any words.
About Jen Dunlap:Jen Dunlap is an Artist, Producer, and Art Director who has been living and working in NYC since 2004. She completed her BFA in 2004 with courses at RISD, SVA. Jen specializes in producing large-scale interactive art shows, short films and comedy sketches, working for online video groups including collegehumor.com, for the last year, Jen has been consistently worked with Celia on projects at Dietch Studios, La Mama Festival, and Le Poisson Rouge. In Dunlap’s work one can distinguish her ability to provide actions to marks and characters spontaneously selected by the way the paint acoustically splats on the surface.
This is the 9th show curated at Eyelevel BQE. Continuing our commitment to exposing Brooklyn and Queens based visual artists and pushing them to expose public work, we are thrilled to produce our first video focused show. Continuing with our mission of connecting the local community to the artists that live and work among them. For more information please visit www.eyelevelgallery.com
