OPEN STUDIOS In partnership with BOMB Magazine, the legendary arts publication. BOMBsite.com will showcase the artists in residence work and its connection to Abrons Arts Center’s Archive through a series of online features in late June.

The Visual Artists in Residence (A.I.R) Workspace Program provides free studio space for one year starting in late September to six New York City visual artists. In addition to studio space the program facilitates visits with many professional artists, critics, and curators. The residency culminates in an open studio event and exhibition of work created during the year.

Open Studios: June 18 – 6-9pm & June 20 1-4pm

TWIN INFINITIES – (a title riff and mutation of “Twin Infinitives” – the galvanizing double album released in 1990 by Royal Trux) – is an experiment in the curatorial process. Each of the 6 current artists were given open access to our archive of alumni residents and asked to select one artist whose work they felt a strong affinity towards. The two artists then discussed current projects and experiences gained through the Residency Program. Ultimately a dialogue was set up between the pair with the goal of shared experience and the potential for collaboration. Some of the artists have decided to collaborate on new works, while others are comfortable presenting separate projects. TWIN INFINITIES, then, alludes to the vast inner worlds that each artist is exploring through their own respective practices as well as to the duality of the entire exhibit it terms of how it overlaps past with the present.
