Liz Jaff’s interactive installation entitled HEDGE is a group of drawings and constructions that investigate ways to reveal and conceal form through folding. Using installation and works on paper, Liz reconfigures her memories and impressions into a new experience re contextualized for the viewer. The material paper, repetition of forms, and the limitation of color palette to white, emphasize the ephemeral and elusiveness of memory and the ability to recollect. Hedge describes something that surrounds, separates and protects what is valuable. It defines space and restricts movement. It suggests avoidance, doubt and risk. During a time of anxiety and uncertainty, it is reassuring to think of it as something that grows and changes.

During the month of August the artist will be at the gallery altering and developing the work. The public is encouraged to visit and see how it evolves during this time. Hedge continues Liz Jaff’s investigations of folding and the ways a two dimensional plane can be manipulated to describe three dimensional form.

Liz received her BFA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. She was the recipient of the Olivetti Scholarship for Foreign Studies. Her work has been featured in Applied Arts, School of Visual Arts, Meat Market Art Fair, Caren Golden Fine Arts, Lennon Weinberg Gallery, Momenta Art Benefit Auction, Earl McGrath Gallery, and 450 Gallery.

Coinciding with Liz Jaff’s installation, +Kris Graves Projects has put together a group photography show entitled SULTRY. The focus of the exhibition is portraiture; the pieces exude intimacy, and a personal connection that extends beyond the frame. The images have a tangible air of sensuality and sexuality about them. The artists exhibiting are Matthew Calabrese, Sofia Cordova, Richard Gary, Terry Girard, Lizzie Gorfaine, Caitlin Kelley, Robert Kozma, Greg Miller, Darcy Rogers, Kiriko Shirobayashi, and Xia Tio.
