“Outside The Time Zone” brings together collages, drawings, installations, paintings, and sculptures by visual artists Ben Berlow, Chris Burnside, Tania Cross, Sarah McDougald Kohn, Sam Martineau, Christopher McGee, Ben Needham, Adam Taye, and Jessica Witkin.
Taking its name from a hypnotic track on the Sun Ra album The Night of The Purple Moon (1970), the exhibition “Outside The Time Zone,” will explore the concept of passage and its varying effects as a person or an object travels between point A and point B. Through this process of transport, the structural and functional nature of the person or object can shift and the outcome is often different than one expects. The artists in the exhibition explore a myriad of sources while considering the larger themes of mutation and passage in their own practice.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a musical performance by MAN BENU (Bentley Anderson and Brady Sansone) at the opening reception.
