Many professional artists marry other artists. In the first half of the 20th century, it was unusual, with a few outstanding examples such as Georgia O’Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz, Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and Robert and Sonia Delaunay. As women gained more equality, the number of successful women artists increased and artists married to artists became more frequent. Now in the 21st Century, it is not uncommon for artists to be married to artists.
The Better Half presents young artist couples who are balancing careers, creating art and being married to another artist. A diversity of backgrounds and artistic approaches are represented. In conjunction with the exhibition, there will also be gallery talks, panel discussions with the artists, and other exciting events.
Artist couples featured in the exhibit include: Chris Bors and Ketta Ioannidou, Daniel Davidson and Tricia Keightley, Jennifer Burbank and Chris Coffin, Linda Ganjian and Jesse Lambert, Liz-N-Val, Donald Porcaro and Leslie Wayne.
