The Farmani Gallery and the New York chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers are proud to announce their collaborative exhibition, ASMP New York Image ‘09 Awards, which will open to a reception on Friday, August 21st from 6-9 pm. The images on exhibit represent the winners chosen by an esteemed panel of jurors, in response to its contest calling for photographs produced after January 1st, 2008. The contest was open to all levels of United States-based competitors: amateur, student and professional.
The winners include Martine Fougeron, Debra Jansen, Nancy Brown, Kendra Haderlie, Dirk Anschutz, and Jessica Luke, who help to make up the professional and non-professional patchwork consistency of the exhibition. The artists’ subject matter is equally diverse, ranging in material from a voyeuristic view of a group of sunbathers by a river’s edge, to an image of an elderly woman standing in front of a gas station, waiting for the bus. As a collective, the images relay scenes of the everyday, scenes of tremendous emotion, and scenes which skew the viewer’s notions of reality.
The Farmani Gallery is excited to partner with the ASMP New York Image ’09 Awards, and is proud to showcase the work its contest has generated. The Farmani Gallery would like to acknowledge the judges who chose the work for this event, including Sonja Gill, associate photo editor of Rolling Stone magazine, Brett Ramey, photo director of Elle magazine, Daniella Nilva-Cunningham, senior photo editor for VH-1, Ed Han, creative director for Publicis, and Peter Hay Halpert of Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art LLC. Additionally, it has been a pleasure to work with Frank Rocco and Stephen Mallon and the ASMP team on this exciting exhibition.
