G. William Webb – Memody

NYU Steinhardt
34 Stuyvesant Street, 212.998.5799
East Village / Lower East Side
September 12 - September 18, 2011
Reception: Wednesday, September 14, 5 - 7 PM

New York University, Steinhardt Rosenberg Gallery announces Momody, a solo exhibition of new work by G. William Webb, MFA Candidate, 2012.

We are time holders, inhaling before descending into deep pools.

Comprised of small sculptural wall works, this installation seeks to locate the intersection between fixed mental images and the handmade. The show’s title, Memody, is the amalgamation of the words memory and melody, suggesting the melding of structure, storage and movement. These objects, crafted from a variety of materials including stone, balsa wood, sand and steel, are containers that map and house evidence – recording a sustained state.

G. William Webb is an artist based in NYC. Awarded the 2009 McKean Visual Arts Grant and the Marvin Cone Prize in sculpture, his work is included in the permanent collection at the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. Webb is currently a 2012 MFA candidate in Studio Art at New York University, Steinhardt, where he teaches ceramics and sculpture.

Regular gallery hours Monday, September 12th through Saturday, September 18th from 10am to 10pm. For additional information please contact [email protected] or visit steinhardt.nyu.edu/art/studio/mfa
