Lumps, Bumps and Things that are Art addresses the bracketing of visual attention (in galleries or otherwise). Micro-flaws in the galleries neutral architectural surfaces are amplified, invented, or simply pointed at with interventions ranging from water damage stains to polymer clay sculptures, moss and fungus to synthetic puddles in the floor. The works span the tension between the cultural and intellectual idea of the gallery space and its presence as a physical entity. It does this by juxtaposing objects that have a contractual relationship with gallery spaces (sculptures, paintings, etc.) and those with a more intrinsic relationship to physical space (the smudges, scrapes, cracks and other evidence of human use). These micro-interventions request consideration of peripheral vision. In extending the frames of the art to include these mundane flaws the work proliferates out of the white cube space into the viewers familiar visual landscape.

Based in Chicago and India, Sumakshi has exhibited her work at venues such as The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Halsey Gallery, Charleston, South Carolina, Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven, Connecticut and Gallery 400 Chicago, Illinois. Sumakshi completed the highly prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture residency after earning her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in painting and drawing and her BFA from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, India.
