Gower explores modernity in the context of cities and buildings. His past projects have explored how architecture is represented through movement, the effects of color on modernist architecture, and the internationalist aspect of its design using video projections, site-specific digital prints, and a pavilion built on the grounds of the Jumex Factory in Mexico City.

Ciudad Moderna includes a video projection, and a series of digital prints. Mexican Modernism takes center stage. The digital video, a composite of clips taken from the film Despedida de Casada (1966), sheds light on both the constraints and liberties in which architecture structures the human experience. The projection includes several single frames which capture an image of the architecture in black and white or dissolve into a perspective rendering like illustrations from an architectural monograph. Ciudad Moderna untangles the architecture from the narrative thread of the original film and recomposes a story of the city as a built environment.
