Andrea Frank will show twelve new photographs based on visits to worldwide ports, capturing ships for this photographic series. In this exhibit, she has focused exclusively on European ports.

Taken as a whole, it is a visual roster of the maritime giants in today’s global market. Individually, each is a unique portrait that speaks to the many dichotomies and contradictions of modern technological innovation. For the artist, these massive and stunning constructions are as beautiful in appearance as in purpose.

To photograph these ships, the artist approaches at water level: in this way, she emphasizes the monumentality of her subject and the vastness of its capabilities, its power, and, conversely, its vulnerability.
