Thomas Nie’s US debut at White box comprises a series of short video works that use human movement and place to elicit the impression of the flux and episodic nature of our perception of vision. Recent works have been created in conjunction with contemporary dancers and performers. The aim of these works are not to portray dance or to document performances, but to explore movements, energy and gestures within different and varied environments.
Residing in Basel, Switzerland, Thomas Nie is a German photo and video artist (www.thomasnie.com). He has developed a photographic and video lexicon that combines his observation and manipulation of movements. His use of color and camera movement combined with his subject’s own energy, fuses to create a vivid and rhythmic sequence of images that in both his still photographs and video projects link the perception of static with the ephemeral.
