These artists, while not sharing subject matter, technique or direction, each have strong inner vision that invites viewers into their amazing worlds, emanating cosmic beauty and sensation.

YAYOI DEKI was born in 1977. Deki has spent most of her young days painting and drawing in her bedroom and repeating small flowers and faces. Her painting is a kind of miniature, using her finger stamps and fine point brush. These depict her own fantasies and memories. After having a small solo show, she made her debut at “Ground Zero Japan” in Mito Art Tower 2000, praised as a remarkable young artist in Japan. Since then, she has had four solo shows in Japan. She also participated in the Venice Architecture Biennial 2000, the Lyon Biennial 2003, France, and other notable international exhibitions.

TOMOO GOKITA has a high popularity among young Japanese people. He makes drawings inspired by music, typography, professional wrestling, and third-rate porn. They have a sense of sex and doubtfulness. His work often varies from academically sound representation to minimal abstraction, while being held together by the same fresh energetic momentum. However, they also carry elements of cool, which might reflect Gokita’s inner conceptual side. His drawings were included in ‘Stranger Town’ show at Dinter Fine Arts earlier this year.

YOKO KAWAMOTO is known for depicting dry, eery and unemotional subjects in the style of realistic painting. Kawamoto prefers deserted landscapes such as scrapped car factories, desolated sand pits, zoo and botanical gardens with combining acrylic and oil painting on small canvas. To create significantly sensitive light and detailed pictorial scenery, she usually produces only 8 – 10 works a year. Kawamoto was awarded The Choice Award (selected by musician-DJ, Tei Towa) in 1999 and had continuous solo and group exhibitions since then.

For this group show, Gokita will attempt to exhibit a whole body of new works, all made in this year after ‘Stranger Town’, combining large- and small-scale drawings. Meanwhile Deki will mount a series of jewel-like delicate works on paper with fantastic psychedelic colors she developed since the mid 90’s, and Kawamoto will show her most significant and well-known works to date of scrapped cars and desolated sand factories.
